Kate Dunn (b. London, 1993) is an artist based in London. Dunn uses paint in search of an active experience. She received a classical training in Florence, Italy; where for four years she worked solely from life, with natural light and a model.
Upon returning to London, she was faced with the reality that she had no connection to her medium outside of its use to replicate: paint as flesh, paint as cloth, but what of paint as paint? Kate uses painting to look at how we interact; concerned with the potential to be passive in the age of information overload, she paints to fight her own passivity. The work often shows the violence of that fight; however, it also presents the devotion, a painter in constant battle to re-experience her medium.
